REFERRAL PROCESS

Each district has a different procedure for obtaining a referral to attend Wellsprings. These guidelines are separate from the Wellsprings admissions process (See below), which also must be completed prior to beginning classes.

Eugene School District 4J | Bethel School District | Springfield School District | Other School Districts

Eugene School District 4J

If you are attending a 4J school currently and would like to attend Wellsprings you must:

  • Speak to your counselor at your school and explain why you would like to go
  • Contact Londa Rochholz at the district office. Explain you have talked with your counselor and would like a referral.
  • If the district agrees to refer you to Wellsprings, contact the Wellsprings office and begin admissions procedures.

If you are new to the district, contact Londa Rochholz directly for placement options.

This referral will stay in effect as long as you are attending regularly and passing classes. If you choose to return to Wellsprings the following year, your referral will be automatically renewed unless there has been problems with attendance, behavior or academics.

Bethel School District

If you are attending a high school in the Bethel district and would like to transfer to Wellsprings:

  • See your counselor at the high school and explain why you would like to attend Wellsprings.
  • The counselor can release you from the school and you must call and make an appointment at Kalapuya High School.
  • The counselor at Kalapuya will make the decision about you receiving the transfer. If they agree, follow the admissions process for Wellsprings. Be sure to bring the yellow release form from the district when you begin classes.

If you choose to return to Wellsprings the following year, you must re-apply through Kalapuya High School. This includes calling and making an appointment with a counselor in late August for new paperwork. This new release form must be brought to Wellsprings before the beginning of the new school year.

Springfield School District

If you are attending a Springfield school and would like to attend Wellsprings on a referral:

  • Speak with your counselor at your high school and explain why you would like to attend Wellsprings.
  • If they agree with your reasoning, they will give you a release form from the high school.
  • Call and make an appointment with Learning Services, located at Gateways Learning Center on Main Street. Take your release form with you to your appointment.
  • The counselor at Gateways will give you paperwork that needs to be brought to Wellsprings when you visit.
  • After you have completed the admissions process, Wellsprings will give you an authorization form that must be returned to Learning Services.
  • At that point, Springfield will give you a blue funding sheet that must be returned to Wellsprings on the day you begin classes.

This referral will stay in effect as long as you are attending regularly and passing classes. If you choose to return to Wellsprings the following year, your referral will be automatically renewed unless there has been problems with attendance, behavior or academics.

Other School Districts

Smaller school districts each have their own process for referral. Contact either your high school principal or the superintendent for instructions on how to apply for a referral.

Other Information to Remember:

  • Every school district has the right to withdraw a referral for a student. This can be done on the basis of attendance, academic performance or behavior. Check with the individual district for rules concerning referral withdrawal.
  • Attendance is a major factor for both the referring district and for Wellsprings. The school day is from 9:00 am until 3:00 pm and students are expected to attend at least 80% of school days for credit. Some districts require a higher percentage.
