An Alternative
Learning Community
Wellsprings
Friends School is an alternative learning community for high school
students. We believe that young people have a natural desire to learn.
Students can be excited and inspired by creative learning experiences
and a nurturing environment.

|
Education
at Wellsprings is an opening up, not a
filling up. With a maximum of 60 students in grades 9 – 12, we take the
time to get to know each student and her/his individual learning needs.
Students who were frustrated or turned off by their prior educational
experiences typically thrive in our environment.

“Sometimes
I wonder what the world
would be like if each school
took the time to help students discover that they have the power to
change the world. I’m glad Wellsprings takes the time.”

Creating a Climate of
Affirmation
Wellsprings Friends School is grounded in our belief in the inherent
goodness within every individual. The staff continually
interacts with students in ways that affirm the integrity, creativity,
and sacredness of each person. Our deep caring is manifested through
simultaneous kindness and firmness, freedom and limits.
|
 |
|
We
foster a community climate of affirmation and
mutual respect. Developing an internal sense of responsibility within
students, rather than externally imposed controls, is our goal.
There is no place at Wellsprings for shaming or blaming. We use dialoguing and problem-solving to deal
with behavioral issues that arise in the community.
